Contractor experience

This article outlines a contractor’s experience opting into coverage via 1099Policy.

Once the enterprise client syncs a contractor’s information to 1099Policy, our system will generate a link to a pre-populated form. This link will automatically be sent to the contractor’s email (from hello@mg2.1099policy.com) and is available to the enterprise client on the contractor’s profile page.

It typically takes contractors under two minutes to opt into coverage. Steps are outlined below and in the video at the bottom of this email.

Walk through: Contractor experience opting into coverage
  1. Verify Information: First, the contractor reviews and verifies the accuracy of the pre-populated information.

  2. Confirm Claim History: They then confirm whether they have had any workers’ compensation claims within the past three years. If so, our system flags the individual for manual review.

  3. Review Your Quote: The contractor is presented with application documents that outline how the coverage works, pricing, quote coverage details, and payment specifics. They must sign these documents and provide consent to receive email communications. After clicking "Finish" and "Agree," this portion of the opt-in is complete.

  4. Final Review: Finally, the contractor is presented with a quick summary of coverage details and total costs. To activate their coverage, they click "Complete Application."

  5. (For ‘Contractor Pay’ assignments only) Premium Payment: See 'Contractor Pay' blurb below for details

Agency Remit vs. Contractor Pay
  • Agency Remit: If the agency is remitting the cost of the coverage on the contractor’s behalf, the opt-in process is complete after steps 1-4. When the contractor clicks ‘Complete Application’ the system will generate their certificate of insurance.

  • Contractor Pay: If the enterprise client has indicated that the contractor is responsible for their premium payment, after clicking 'Complete Application,' the contractor will be prompted to enter their credit card information for payment. A credit card charge will be processed approximately 24 hours later, at which point 1099Policy will generate a certificate of insurance.
