Frequently Asked Questions: Nursa Healthcare Professionals
What is 1099Policy?
1099Policy is Nursa’s partner for workers’ compensation. It offers on demand, per assignment coverage to independent contractors, including healthcare professionals.
This coverage protects you, a healthcare professional, by allowing you to get the coverage you need for each work assignment at low cost.
What is workers’ compensation?
Workers’ compensation, or workers’ comp, is insurance for injuries that happen on the job. If you’re hurt while working a covered shift, it helps pay for medical care and lost wages, based on your state’s rules.
Is workers’ comp required?
No. It’s always your choice. Some facilities on Nursa prioritize clinicians with workers’ comp, and you’ll see that when you view their shifts. You can request any shift with or without workers’ comp coverage.
How does this work?
1099Policy integrates seamlessly with Nursa’s marketplace. When you request a shift at a facility, you can choose to add workers’ comp. The first time, you’ll need to enroll through 1099Policy. It takes about a minute. After that, you can add coverage to future shifts without enrolling again, unless you work in a new state or under a different license.
How long does enrollment take?
Enrolling takes about a minute. In rare cases, your application may be flagged for review, which can take up to 24 hours. You can still request and work shifts in the meantime, but a shift that starts before your review is complete won’t be covered.
What will this cost?
Coverage is a small percentage of your pay for the shift, and the rate depends on your state and role. You’ll see the estimated amount before you request the shift. The cost is only deducted from your pay if you work the shift.
What if I’m not scheduled for the shift?
You won’t pay anything. Coverage is only deducted from shifts you actually work.
What happens in the event that I need to file a claim?
We hope you never need to, but if you’re injured on a covered shift, email claims@1099policy.com and include the following information:
Your name
The date of the incident
The state where it happened
A description of what happened
1099Policy will notify the insurance company, and a claims representative will contact you about next steps. Claims are paid directly by the insurance company.
